DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Detectives have new leads in their search for the person who killed a man in a drive-by shooting on Interstate 20 near Lithonia.

Witnesses said the person who shot Jonathan Williams Jr. of Villa Rica, was in a small model red Chevrolet with a Missouri license plate.

They are also fairly confident that Williams was accompanied by a passenger who fled the scene on foot after the shooting took place.

After the shooting, witnesses said the unidentified passenger got out of car, hopped over the middle median, ran across three lanes of oncoming traffic in the west bound lanes of I-20 and disappeared into the woods.

Police hope that this unnamed person will come forward and identify themselves.

Williams,19, from Villa Rica, was killed almost immediately after a passing driver sprayed bullets across his windshield and hood.

It happened in the late afternoon and other cars headed out of the city were all around.

Williams' car came to rest along the center median of I-20 eastbound near the Panola Road exit.

Police said there was no gun in Williams' car and witnesses said it did not appear to be an episode of road rage.

Police do not know why the other driver wanted to kill Williams, or how he found him on the highway.
