ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Friday kicks off the the first effective day for dozens of new laws in Georgia.

Here are some of the more important ones.

Students at least 18 years old will now be legally able to carry Tasers and stun guns on Georgia's public college and university campuses.

Another law targets police sitting on grand jury if they may have used deadly force. Now they will have to answer questions and can't stay the entire hearing.

And lastly---a law inspired by former President Jimmy Carter. This law allows patients suffering from advanced cancer---access to more aggressive treatment programs--like the one that helped the former president.
