ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Atlanta broke a new record in 2016 by spending 73 straight days at, or above 70 degrees.

The temperature remained at 70 degrees or warmer from June 22 through Sept. 2! The streak was finally broken when the temperature dropped to 69 degrees on Sept. 3.

Record shattered

The new record for 2016 of 73 straight days shattered the previous record of 55 straight days that was set in 2010.

Most number of days at or above 70° in Atlanta

  • 73 in 2016
  • 55 in 2010
  • 48 in 2005
  • 46 in 1991
  • 44 in 2012

Despite the streak, the normal low temperature each day during this time was actually in the low 70s as well. The normal low in Atlanta dropped to 69 degrees on Aug. 31, and the actual temperature finally dropped below 70 degrees not long afterward.
