ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Officials in Henry County said three dogs killed a rabid raccoon, spurring a 45-day rabies alert for the  area.

The Kimble Farms subdivision in McDonough, and a half-mile area surrounding are under the alert.

During the alert, residents living in this area should make sure that all of their companion animals have a current rabies vaccination.

If not, they should do so as soon as possible.

Additionally, residents should be vigilant of the behavior of not only their own pets, but also of surrounding wildlife (e.g. foxes, skunks and raccoons) that are acting in an unusual manner.
