ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Honeywell, a Fortune 500 company, will bring more than 800 jobs to Atlanta.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed held a press conference Monday morning to announce that a large industrial company is creating hundreds of high-paying jobs in Atlanta.

Honeywell International will occupy part of the half-filled former Bank of America building in Midtown and will bring more than 800 jobs in technology, software development and manufacturing.

The company is investing $19 million to create a "software innovation center". That center will provide 730 full-time jobs in software engineering, they said. 100 more jobs will be in the new Atlanta headquarters for Honeywell's Home and Building Solutions division.

"When innovative companies such as Honeywell choose to locate in Georgia, it is a testament to the state’s thriving technology sector and business-friendly climate,” said Deal. “The University System of Georgia was instrumental in attracting Honeywell to our state and will continue to develop a strong workforce to meet the needs of innovative high-tech companies. Honeywell’s investment will maximize the technology-oriented talent of Georgia’s workforce and speaks to the state’s reputation as a premier destination for job creators."

Most of the jobs will be in product software development.

Honeywell is a Fortune 100 diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes, and industry; turbochargers; and performance materials.

The company will get $2 million in grants from the state of Georgia and Atlanta along with $10 million in tax incentives. But Honeywell officials didn't have all the details as to how 800 jobs will be created. The company will only get the tax incentive if the 830 jobs are created.

CBS46 visited the Georgia Department of Labor in N. Druid Hills Monday. The announcement had people there looking for jobs hopeful that they'll be one of the 800 newly employed with Honeywell.

"Most of the jobs are software but they have to have somebody to clean up or move desks or all those related jobs with the software industry so it would be a good opportunity," Warren Freeman said. He's been unemployed for two years.

Honeywell is currently searching to fill the openings and hopes to have its new center open by the end of the year. It still hasn't decided where in Atlanta the new software innovation center will open.

Honeywell currently employs more than 1,000 people at 11 locations in Georgia, including 6 locations in the Atlanta area.
