ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Former Benjamin E. Mays Football Coach Corey Jarvis lost his job for allegedly mismanaging money.

Tuesday, his attorney spoke to CBS46.

“The allegation was that he mismanaged. Mismanagement is kin to you not balancing your checkbook,” said attorney Antavius Weems.

In a letter sent to Jarvis in May, the Atlanta Public School District claimed more than $ 4,000 of that money was untraceable.

In that same letter, the district also stated Jarvis got into a heated argument with a parent during a football game.

“By the time we got to our hearing in June, there were no charges brought to Atlanta Public Schools with regards to any confrontation,” said Weems.

Following the accusations, Jarvis and Weems attended a tribunal hearing where a three person board made a recommendation to terminate Jarvis.

Last Tuesday, The Atlanta Public School board decided to fire Jarvis. The vote was 5-4.

Statement from Atlanta Public Schools:

Atlanta Public Schools can confirm that Corey Jarvis is no longer employed with the district.  On September 6, 2016, The Atlanta Board of Education voted in favor of the APS Hearings Tribunal's recommendation to terminate Mr. Jarvis' employment based on the tribunal's findings.

Weems said the same allegations were given to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. A spokesperson with the commission confirmed there is an open case against Jarvis.
