Authorities in Milton said they made an arrest in the case of Dorie, the three-month-old service dog who was stolen from a local training facility.

John Henry Sears of Milton, 34, has been arrested for false statements and writings. He also faces possible charges of felony theft in the alleged canine caper.

According to the Facebook group set up to find the dog, the arrest is not directly related to her theft. The group says the investigation is ongoing.

Facility: First time in 25 years a dog was stolen

Canine Assistants, a facility that trains service dogs like Dorie before they're given permanent homes, said the dog was stolen, along with her harness from her kennel.

“This is the first time in 25 years we have ever had a puppy stolen from our farm, and considering the facts, we can only assume the person(s) involved knew our system and they had a clear intention to take Dorie along with her service vest,” said Jennifer Arnold with Canine Assistants.

A couple of days later, the dog was handed to a couple outside an Atlanta-area Publix store, along with a note.

Sears has been placed in the Fulton County Jail and will be formally charged in Gwinnett County.
