CARROLL COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A warning for people living in or around Carroll County. Two men are trying to steal your personal information.

Residents in the county say two men have been disguising themselves as utility workers while going door-to-door in an effort to steal their personal information.

The men claim they're with the Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative in Carrollton and they're going door-to-door selling solar panels. Once they find a willing participant, they ask for personal information to perform a credit check.

Officials believe the pair are stealing people's personal information for profit.

"If it was Carroll EMC, they'd put a message out and then if not, I'll call them and say 'hey, is this legit' or whatever it may be but some people don't know," said resident Ben Ballard.

EMC officials say their employees never practice door-to-door sales.

If you've been approached by the men, you're urged to contact police.
