ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Brian Snitker will retain his position as the Atlanta Braves manager heading into the 2017 season.

The Braves General Manager John Coppolella officially made the announcement this morning stating, "Brian earned this opportunity through his dedication to the Braves and to our players. We are excited for the energy and momentum he will bring into Suntrust Park next season."

Snitker was named the interim manager in May after the firing of former manager Fredi Gonzalez. The Braves were 9-28 at the time. Snitker went on to finish the season with a 59-65 record, including going 20-10 in the last 30 games.

Previously, Snitker served as the third base coach for the Braves before becoming manager of the Gwinnett Braves in 2013.

Along with Snitker's announcement, the Braves also announced the rest of their 2017 coaching staff including bench coach Terry Pendleton, first base coach Eddie Perez, new third base coach Ron Washington, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer and new pitching coach Chuck Hernandez.

The Braves will play for the first time in the new Suntrust Park stadium during preseason on March 31 against the New York Yankees.
