ATLANTA (CBS46) -

If the year ended today, 2016 would be the third-driest year on record in Atlanta.

So far this year, Atlanta has seen about 32 inches of rain, which is about 7 inches below average and more than 15 inches less than what was seen through this time last year.

In 2015, Atlanta already had about 47 inches of rain through mid-October, which was near the yearly average of 49.71 inches two months early.

After seeing an above-average amount of rain in January and February, each month’s precipitation has been below-average in Atlanta since March!

While 2016 currently ranks as the third-driest on record, there’s still more than 2 months to go to pick up additional rain.

The driest year on record in Atlanta is 1954 when only 31.8 inches of rain fell.

October is typically the second-driest month of the year after April.
