Haralson County under emergency drought restrictions

Posted: Updated:
HARALSON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Northwest Georgia's drought is starting to get serious.

Haralson County is so low on water, they're asking everyone to limit their water indoors, and not to use any water outside.

"We've asked the car washes to close. We're not watering the athletic fields. We've asked people to turn off their sprinklers, and in the house, if you don't need the water, don't run it," said Charlie Walker, Haralson County Water Authority director.

Places like Bremen, Buchanan and Tallapoosa get their water from the Tallapoosa River, which is now more than six feet below its normal level.

In addition to not using water outdoors, county officials recommend taking shorter showers, not running water continuously while shaving or brushing teeth, and watering plants with leftover ice cubes in the freezer.
