When do 80-degree-days end in Atlanta?

Posted: Updated:

With record heat in Atlanta this week, I did some digging to find out when 80-degree-temperatures typically end in the city.

Our 80-degree-days in Atlanta -- days at 80 degrees and above -- typically start on March 31 and end on October 19. That doesn't mean we don't see 80s past Oct. 19. The latest we've ever seen a temperature of 80-degrees or warmer in Atlanta is Nov. 27 back in 1973.

  • Typical last 80
    Oct. 19

  • This year's projected last 80
    Oct. 20 (Thursday)

  • Last year's last 80
    Oct. 23

  • Latest 80 on record
    Nov. 27, 1973

History says we're almost done

If history is any indication, the 80s will soon be over in Atlanta. Since 2010, there has only been one 80-degree-day in Atlanta in November, and there are no 80-degree-days at all on record in Atlanta in December.

Month-by-month

The most number of 80-degree-days we see in Atlanta typically occur in June through September with June and July both averaging 29 total 80-degree-days each month.

  • March - 1
  • April - 6
  • May - 17
  • June - 26
  • July - 29
  • Aug - 29
  • Sept - 21
  • Oct - 6
