DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Surveillance photographs show the moment Melisha Quarles tried to buy a car off Craigslist.

“Oh she was very believable,” Quarles said. “She said that she was a contractor that worked at different places, at different hospitals through hospice service.”

The seller, identified as Yavette Donwell claimed to work at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta on Clifton Road and met Quarles in the lobby to complete the transaction.

“She had on black scrubs. She was dressed like any other employee or any other nurse that could be working for the hospital,” Quarles said.

Quarles paid her $1,600 for a red Honda Accord.  That’s when Donwell gave her the keys and sent her to the parking deck, stating she couldn’t leave the hospital to show her the car because she needed to be with her patients.

“I searched the whole deck and I still could not find the car,” Quarles said.

There was no car. So Quarles began texting Donwell, but it was too late.

Another woman has come forward, claiming she was taken. 30 year-old Jujuania King said she hoped to move her and her seven children into a new townhome with Donwell''s help.

The woman claims she gave Donwell $1,200 but never was able to move into the home.

“We do have reason to believe this may have happened at other places. We have found images at other hospitals with what we believe to be the same person,” DeKalb County Police Maj. Stephen Fore said.

“You want to come in a hospital with these sick kids and pull a scam like that, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. How dare you?” Quarles said.

Police consider it theft-by-deception and issued a felony arrest warrant for Donwell.

Donwell has previous run-ins with the law. She was arrested in 2011 to theft and armed robbery charges in DeKalb County.
