Elderly tenant's water leak triggers eviction threat

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A leaky toilet almost forced an Atlanta woman and her mother out on the street.

Lelia Cohen is a full-time caregiver for her 80-year-old mother, Lilian Cummings, who has dementia.

Mom and daughter love their subsidized apartment home. But a leaky toilet nearly led to their eviction. Lelia contacted management about the leak, but it took a year for the company to fix it.

Meanwhile, her water bill spiked.

Apartment managers told her just to pay what she normally did for water. Then a new management company took over, demanding payment of the entire water bill plus late fees, totaling more than $1,100.

That's when Lelia decided she'd Better Call Harry.
