ATLANTA (CBS46) -

There are reports that police agencies across the country are on heightened alert before the polls open Tuesday morning.

CBS46 News checked with various police jurisdictions on how they are patrolling and if they are increasing patrols. They sent us the following responses:

Atlanta Police

This year’s presidential election is unlike any other and there are indications that poll lines will be long tomorrow. The Atlanta Police Department has been in contact with the Secretary of State’s office and Fulton County election office concerning the number of polling locations in the City.

While we have no intelligence about any incidents that may occur on Election Day, please know that Atlanta Police Officers will remain vigilant and visible.  We will monitor communication and respond as normally for any calls, including suspicious packages or threats received by phone or mail.  We will also provide increased directed patrols at polling locations throughout the day.

DeKalb County Police:

There will be off duty officers working at various polling locations. Uniform will patrol the area often as possible. No breakdown available and not available for sound.

Gwinnett County Police:

During Election Day, our uniform officers along with the Motorcycle Unit and other Special Ops officers will be increasing their patrols at polling location.

Please contact the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office to see if they are planning any details.

Cobb County Police:

The Cobb County Police Department will be reminded of the voting pole locations within their precinct at roll call and “Zone Patrolling” them (at the officers discretion or as dispatched).  The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office however, may be detailing their deputies to them... but please verify before releasing to the public.
