Atlanta Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a man outside a bar on Edgewood Avenue early Saturday morning.

Mitchell Mormon, Jr., 32, and a female friend were shot while leaving a bar called Church at about 3 a.m. The woman survived.

Mormon had just accepted a new job, according to his parents. He was reportedly celebrating with a night out when the shooting took place. Mormon leaves behind three children.

"The smallest one is almost three months. He's got a 4-year-old and an 8-year-old, and they want to know where's their daddy," Gloria Mormon, the victim's mother, said.

In photos shown to CBS46 by his parents in an emotional plea to the killer to surrender, Mormon is smiling and surrounded by family members.

Maj. Adam Lee III, homicide commander of the Atlanta Police Department, said the suspect, a Hispanic man in his 20s, turned himself in Wednesday with his attorney at his side. He was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Lee did not immediately identify the man under arrest. Investigators believe he is the same Hispanic man seen in a surveillance video circulated by the Atlanta Police Department. A white man, also seen in the video, is considered a second person of interest.

Lee said they have information that the suspect in custody might have been involved in some other crimes in the area and that investigators are planning to use his mugshot in a photo lineup.

"It would taint the investigation if in fact we showed his photograph, a full photograph, on the news, such as a color photograph," said Maj. Adam Lee, III of the Atlanta Police Department. "It would hamper our ability to show his picture in a lineup going forward.”

Family members passed along the funeral information for Mormon, for those who would like to pay their respects.
