After near-record heat Friday afternoon, the coldest temperatures of the season will arrive in Atlanta this weekend.

A cold front will move through north Georgia Saturday, bringing much colder temperatures and strong winds. You'll notice the drop in temperature, so be sure and dress accordingly Saturday night.

Coldest in 7 months

Temperatures will drop into the 30s this weekend in Atlanta for the first time since March 22, which was more than seven months, or more than 240 days ago!

From 70s to 30s

The high temperature on Friday was a near-record 79 degrees in Atlanta. By Sunday morning, temperatures will drop to near-freezing in the low 30s for a total drop of more than 40 degrees this weekend!

Wind advisory, freeze warning

A wind advisory is in effect for all of metro Atlanta on Saturday as strong northerly winds move in behind the cold front. In addition, a freeze warning is in effect for Saturday night through Sunday morning with freezing temperatures -- 32 degrees or colder -- expected for much of metro Atlanta on Sunday morning.

Behind schedule

Record heat in Atlanta has kept our temperatures above average for much of Fall so far. Temperatures in Atlanta typically drop into the 30s by Oct. 27, but this year we're expected to drop into the 30s on Nov. 20, which would be tied for the second latest on record in Atlanta. The latest Atlanta has ever dropped into the 30s was Nov. 23 back in 1994.

  • This Year - Nov. 20 (forecast)
  • Latest - Nov. 23, 1994
