Large animal rescue team saves horse stuck in swamp

Posted: Updated:

A horse in Cherokee County is now in stable condition after getting stuck in a swamp.

A Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services rescue team responded to the call around 10:30 a.m.

When the team arrived to the scene, they found a portion of the back of the horse and its head sticking out of the muddy water. In order to remove the horse, team members placed walking boards around the horse so they could attach a harness around it.

"The mud around the horse makes it more difficult for the rescue team to pull him out of the suction, " said Special Operations Chief Darrell Mitchell,

This allowed to air to be piped in around the horse to help in bringing him back to safe ground.

The horse was able to stand on all fours after being rescued.
