Cobb County road construction will displace residents

Posted: Updated:

As construction crews work toward completing the massive project that is the I-75 Northwest express lanes, an accompanying project near Windy Hill Road carries the reality of displacing several residents in that area.

The Windy Hill-Terrell Mill Road connector, less than a mile long, will require the demolition of several properties, including townhomes and possibly some apartments. Once complete, the road will help drivers access the I-75 express lanes at Terrell Mill Road.

"I can understand the fatigue of construction in that area because there has been so much of it," said Cobb County DOT Director Jim Wilgus.

Wilgus said fair market offers will be made to home owners who are asked to move, as a result of the project.

The express lanes on I-75 are set to open in 2018. The Windy Hill-Terrell Mill Road connector is slated for completion in 2019.
