Metro Atlanta shoppers crowd malls on the hunt for Black Friday deals

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Lenox Mall is no stranger to crowds.

It's busy on any typical Friday, but on Black Friday, the mall was even more swamped with shoppers out looking for discounted items.

Alex Shields dragged his girlfriend out of bed at 4 a.m. to go shopping, he lives in Mississippi, but was visiting Atlanta.

"I haven't been here in some years now so I figure I'd come catch the deals," Sheilds said.

Macy's offered a 50 percent off deal, and that pulled Emma Ross into the Black Friday fray.

Kennedy Massey, 13, made her mom get up at 4:30 a.m. to drive her to Lenox Mall. She'd been eying some deals for a few days now, particularly in Victoria's Secret.

"i wanted a lot of clothes from Pink, loungewear and sweats," she said.

Friends Simone Moore and Danielle Grayson didn't even go to sleep Thursday. They wanted to be some of the first through mall doors, so they powered through that Thanksgiving evening.

"I woke up for Thanksgiving," Moore said. "I was ready to eat, I was starving. I ate and then I was ready to go shopping."

Mall of Georgia offering banner deals

A spokesperson at the Mall of Georgia said some stores are offering 50 percent off this Black Friday, at least one is offering 70 percent off. Shoppers were seen arriving before 4 a.m. this morning, some said they never went to sleep.

“We actually left home at 10 (and) we've been here at the mall since midnight,” said one shopper.

The mall officially opened at 6 a.m. but the retailers were given the option of opening earlier.

A spokesperson with Simon Property Group, the company which owns the Mall of Georgia said retailers Abercrombie, Old Navy, Aldo, Gap and Ann Taylor are offering 50 percent off this Black Friday.  She said The Limited is offering 70 percent off this Black Friday.

The Mall of Georgia will close Friday at 10 p.m.
