Atlanta goes record 43 days without measurable rain

Atlanta went a total of 43 days without measurable rainfall from mid-October to late November, breaking an all-time record for the longest stretch without rain.

Prior to Tuesday, the last measurable amount of rain in the city was 0.03 inches on Oct. 16. Ironically, the dry record was broken Tuesday when more than 2 inches of rain fell, which was also a record. 

The previous record in Atlanta for the longest stretch without measurable rain was 39 days ending on Oct. 21, 1884.

Of the top 10 driest stretches in Atlanta, it's also worth noting that all but one stretch ended in either October or November.

The official rainfall is taken at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is about 10 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta. This report uses data from the airport, in addition to other locations used as the official reporting site for Atlanta prior to Hartsfield-Jackson.
