Henry County's Work-Based Learning Student of the month

Posted: Updated:

Shyanne Lawrence is the November Work-Based Learning student of the month for Henry County.

Lawrence is a graduating senior at Stockbridge High School and is employed by the Chik-fila Dwarf house in Stockbridge.

"Shyanne exhibits great professionalism and responsibility,"said Nathan King, who is her supervisor. "Her leadership and influence is invaluable to our team. She helps to maintain standards, while also setting standards for others to follow."

As a work-based learning student, Lawrence is gaining skills to help her reach her ultimate career goal in a different field.

Lawrence is enrolled in many healthcare and science courses, which have had a huge impact on her career choice. Her dream is to become a pediatrician and daycare owner.

"The courses give me a glimpse of what I was going to be committing to, and it also gave me the opportunity to come to the decision that I really wanted to continue in the in the healthcare field", said Lawrence.

Lawrence noticed a great shift in herself as a participant in the Work-Based learning program. She explains how she went from someone without a clear focus on what  she wanted to do, to someone who now has a better understanding and ambition to make the right choices for her future.

Her Work-Based instructor, Deborah Gilliam also noticed the transformation.

"Shyanne is a hard worker," said Gilliam. "She often evaluates what she needs to do to stay focused and accomplish her goals.  Her employability skills and soft skills make her a valuable asset to her employer.”

Henry County high schools’ Work-Based Learning initiative is dedicated to providing high school students with valuable work experience and career guidance.

Lawrence is a great asset to this program.
