Code Enforcement investigates problems at Clayton County apartments

Posted: Updated:

A CBS46 investigation has uncovered more problems at a metro Atlanta apartment complex, which have created a health concern for some.

Amber Nixon pointed out a plethora of problems at the Willow Way Apartments on Riverdale Road in Clayton County and said it’s not worth the $650 a month to live at the property.

She said raw sewage spews out of the side of building K and management has done nothing to clean it up.

“I don’t know what’s going on because they don’t tell us anything. We complain about the situation and they don’t really tell us anything,” Nixon said.

Management recently moved Nixon out of building O. Not only was there a sinkhole in front of the building, another one formed behind it. She said management told her the building was structurally unsafe.

“You guys really need to get out of here because the building has moved some more, and if you guys don’t get out of here and something happens we can’t be liable because we told you,” Nixon said.

CBS46 contacted Clayton County Code Enforcement and they sent an officer out to investigate. It turns out the county has cited the complex for multiple code violations during the past year.

So we went to the office to ask management about the numerous problems, but the door was locked and no one was available.

"I wouldn’t advise nobody to come here. It’s condemned, the people upstairs from me, code enforcement condemned them and told them they had to leave.  This place was supposed to give me a new apartment four weeks ago and I still have not gotten an apartment,” resident Taniqua said.

Code Enforcement told CBS46 they have been out to the Willow Way Apartments more than 20 times during the past year for various issues like drainage, garbage and plumbing.

Officers said they will investigate the latest complaints as well.
