HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Henry County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in downtown Hampton.

According to authorities, officers were responding to a domestic-related incident at a local business.

Witnesses tell CBS46 that the dispute began at a dentist office, where the woman involved worked.

Hampton police responded to the call. They said the fight spilled out into the alleyway out back.

“Hampton officers, when they arrived, the suspect was physically assaulting the female in the alley when they engaged him,” said Henry County Police Captain Joey Smith.

A Henry County officer shot the man after they said he pulled out a gun and began to point it toward them.

Don Franklin knew both the man and woman involved. He told CBS46 that the situation didn’t shock him.

“No, not completely. I didn’t think it would go to this extreme.”

Franklin said the two had been separated and that the man had some trouble readjusting to life back home after being overseas.

“He was military so he was gone a lot and when he’s back, I guess you could say he tried to fit in.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.
