As we get closer to the holidays, non profits in metro Atlanta are working to make sure no family struggles to put food on the table.

The pantry at the Sunshine Brotherhood Community Foundation is full, for now. The organization says as Christmas approaches that could change.

"Families, because kids are out of school, are trying to provide a meal for the entire family to sit down, to be able to fellowship together and to be able to eat together," Tango Lemon, director of the foundation said.

The group feeds about 600 families a week. The children in those families are just happy to get a meal this holiday season, rather than toys.

"Kids come in and they're getting a box of food and they're just happy and overwhelmed, almost like it's candy, but you're giving them a box of food and they know that they are going to eat that week," Lemon said.

The Sunshine Brotherhood Community Foundation gets their food from the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

"I rely totally on the Atlanta Community Food Bank," Lemon added.

The food bank gives food to 600 different agencies year-round and they do it with donations and volunteers. The food bank is busiest around this time of year.

"Part of celebrating the holidays is coming together with family and friends around food, so helping to set the table gives people a little more hope during the holiday season," Sarah Fonder-Kristy, Chief Development Officer of the food bank said.

Many charities say that they do rely on food and clothing donations, but they also need monetary donations this time of year. Those donations help them continue their service throughout the entire year.
