MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) -

A developer has been given the green light by the City of Marietta to push forward on plans to renovate the former Holiday Inn on Delk Road at I-75.

The hotel has sat vacant, without walls, in plain sight of 10s of thousands of daily commuters, for nearly 10 years.

"The optics from the expressway will certainly improve," said City Councilman Philip Goldstein, who oversees the area where the hotel is located. "If the (developer) builds the design they showed us, it'll be a very nice hotel."

Progress up to this point was delayed, said Goldstein, by insurance complications, and other plans by other developers that never got off the ground. He said he is confident the current project will move along without any further setbacks. It is set to become a Home2Suites Hotel by Hilton.

Goldstein said it's unclear what the time line is for the hotel's completion.
