Man arrested after high-speed chase in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Police say a 33-year-old man out of Florida was arrested Wednesday after he led authorities on a chase in Monroe County that reached speeds of 135 mph.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, troopers with Georgia State Patrol tried to pull over Astor Chevalleau II when he allegedly fled in a 2013 Chrysler car.

Chevalleau is accused of ramming multiple patrol cars and driving north on the southbound lanes of I-75 during the chase.

Troopers eventually executed a pit maneuver, ending the chase. 

Police say Chevalleau was first taken to the hospital for evaluation, and later taken to jail. 

About 3 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, more than 100 grams of liquid hydrocodone, a loaded gun, digital scales and other drug paraphernalia were found in the car Chevalleau was driving, according to authorities.

Chevalleau was charged with multiple drug offenses; possession of a firearm; two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; obstruction of a law enforcement officer; fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement officers; speeding and a window tint violation.
