Two men sentenced for sexual assault of child

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Two men will spend years behind bars for the sexual assault of a child beginning when she was just four years old.

Mario Esteban Sanchez, 58, who was related to the girl by marriage at the time of the attacks, was convicted of two counts of child molestation. The child disclosed the abuse to a cousin when she was a few years older. She is now 12.

“This brave little girl carried the burden of this abuse silently for years. Hopefully, this verdict will release some of that burden and she can begin to heal,” said Deputy Chief ADA Chuck Boring. “As for the Defendant, the jury’s verdict will assure that this predator will never harm another child.”

Sanchez faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison.

In January, Marcio Rogelio Cartagena, 33,pleaded guilty to rape and aggravated child molestation against the same child. Cartagena, a friend of the girl’s family, attacked the girl when she was five years old. He was sentenced to life, with 18 years to serve in prison.
