Clerk takes robber's gun, robber runs

STOCKBRIDGE, GA (CBS46) -

Police in Henry County are searching for 22 year old, Joseph McCoy who they said attempted to rob a convenient store in Stockbridge.

Surveillance video from the robbery shows McCoy pointing a gun at the clerk of the Texaco on Eagles Landing Parkway and attempting to remove money from the cash register on February 9.

The clerk takes the gun, and the man turns tail, attempting to leave the store. He trips over a display before getting to his feet and running from the store.

Captain Mike Ireland with Henry County Police do not encourage people to do what the clerk did “it’s not worth a few dollars to lose your life because normally the individual who is presenting the weapon will normally have their finger on the trigger and anything that jarred that weapon is going to cause that weapon to basically discharge, so I would say the clerk was lucky under these circumstances”

If you have seen McCoy, police urge you to contact Henry County Police Detective Fisher at 770-288-7585 or ifisher@co.Henry.GA.us.
