PEACHTREE CITY, GA (CBS46) -

Police say a man was shot and killed by an officer after he first opened fire on authorities.

The incident occurred in the Glenloch area of Peachtree City, according to the Peachtree City Police Department.

Police say they were shot at by 67 year-old William Dean after responding to the scene because of a domestic violence call.

An officer returned a single round from his rifle, which killed Dean, according to authorities. Neighbor Renee Sowinski describes the scene as it unfolded.

"I heard a shot and then 30 seconds after that I heard a second shot. And then I would say within two minutes I counted twenty patrol cars and first responders come flying up the street," said Sowinski.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the shooting.
