St. George evacuated due to wildfire

FOLKSTON, Ga. (CBS46) -

The entire town of St. George has been evacuated due to a wildfire at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge that started a month ago.

A temporary shelter has been established in the gymnasium of the Folkston Elementary School.

The fire, originally reported April 6, was caused by lightning. 

The Southern Area Type 1 Red Incident Management Team is managing the fire with the Georgia Forestry Commission, Greater Okefenokee Association of Landowners, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Florida Forest Service, and U.S. Forest Service.
