DUNWOODY, GA (CBS46) -

Atlanta Hawks center Dwight Howard was given a ticket after police say he was caught driving 95 mph on I-285 in metro Atlanta.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on April 29 when a police officer saw a vehicle driving 95 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to a spokesperson with the Dunwoody Police Department.

The spokesperson said the driver, later identified as Howard, was pulled over on I-285 near Ashford-Dunwoody Road, which is about 15 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.

Police say in addition to speeding, Howard's registration was suspended, and he allegedly could not provide insurance during the traffic stop.

Howard was given a ticket for not having insurance, according to the spokesperson, along with a warning for speeding and his registration.

The police spokesperson said Howard's vehicle was also towed.

The traffic stop occurred the morning after the Hawks lost Game 6 of their first round playoff series against the Washington Wizards at Phillips Arena in Atlanta.

The loss eliminated the Hawks from the playoffs.
