ATLANTA (CBS46) -

For more than 3 years, Victoria Rickman has been sitting in the DeKalb County jail, charged with the murder of her ex-fiance William Carter, Jr.

She has yet to go before a jury but her story has already been circulated nationally after a reality show two years ago discussed the case.

Rickman is accused of shooting and killing Carter in September of 2013.  She says he came into the home where she was staying and sexually assaulted her.  She called 911, telling the operator she "didn't want to hurt him" but "he wouldn't stop."

CBS News reports that a reality show was filming with police at the time, and on the night of the murder, a detective allegedly expressed doubt about Rickman's self-defense claim and questioned whether the shooting was premeditated.

This is a claim Rickman denies and a longtime friend says her reputation is already destroyed and irreparably damaged.

CBS News, we should mention, reports the detective who allegedly made those allegations on camera wouldn't offer any comment when approached late last year because of the upcoming trial.

Rickman's case was pushed back in November of 2016, after her attorney said he wanted more time to find an expert witness who could testify to their battered woman defense: they claim Rickman was defending herself when she allegedly shot Carter.

Facebook page says accused was assaulted, attacked

A Facebook page and associated blog set up in support of Rickman says she was sexually assaulted and attacked inside her home before she was "forced to defend herself."

"She has unjustly been charged with murder and is currently being held indefinitely in the DeKalb County Jail," the page, called 'Justice for Victoria Rickman' says.

The page says she was denied a bond and has been "unable to heal from this traumatic event."

"Her entire life has been taken away from her, but more importantly, her 9 year-old son is without his mother who he so dearly loves. The real victims in this unfortunate situation, are both Victoria and her son," it says.
