Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan was in metro Atlanta on Monday to join 6th District congressional candidate Karen Handel for a campaign rally.

The event, which was originally planned to be hosted in Sandy Springs, was changed to the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center. (The Handel campaign said the last minute venue change was done to accommodate a larger crowd.)

Approximately 150 supporters came out to hear Handel and Ryan in a festive atmosphere. Local dignitaries, business leaders, and national representatives from the Republican party were all in attendance.

Handel is facing off against Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff in a June 20 run-off election. Ossoff and Handel are vying to replace Tom Price, who now serves as Health and Human Services Secretary in the Trump administration.

A newly released poll shows Ossoff and Handel in a neck-and-neck race. The poll shows Ossoff with 47 percent while Handel is just two points behind at 45 percent. 8 percent remain undecided.

But not all those in attendance supported Handel. Outside the venue, close to 60 protestors stood with signs. One protestor sneaked into the venue and had to be escorted out early. After Ryan's speak, another one started yelling and was drowned out by people yelling "USA" and the band AC/DC playing.

CNN reports the special election is on its way to being the single most expensive House race in American history.
