Serial burglar sentenced to 30 years in prison

Posted: Updated:

A man found guilty of burglarizing several homes in Cobb County will spend three decades in prison.

Barry Lynn Gibson, 55, was convicted by a jury for burglarizing two homes in Cobb County in 2014.

Gibson broke into a home on Elm Drive in Marietta and stole thousand of dollars worth of electronics and jewelry July 2014. September 2014, Gibson broke into another home on Robin Lane and stole electronics, jewelry, and two pistols.

Gibson was linked to both burglaries after investigators tracked some of the stolen items to pawn shops in metro Atlanta where he had pawned them after the break-ins.

“Not only is this defendant a serial burglar, but he is also a convicted felon who was breaking into homes and stealing firearms, and then selling the firearms on the streets. Who buys firearms on the street? Other convicted felons and gang members,” said ADA Stephanie Adrean, who prosecuted the case.

Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark sentenced Gibson as a recidivist to 40 years, with 30 years to serve in prison and the rest on probation.
