Man accused in shooting death at Smyrna gas station arrested in New Jersey

SMYRNA, GA (CBS46) -

Smyrna Police detectives will travel to New Jersey to interview the man accused of shooting and killing a man at a Cobb County gas station.

The shooting happened at the Texaco location on South Cobb Drive near Powder Springs Road on May 15. The suspect, identified as 36 year-old Joseph Priester of Thomaston, then drove away in a dark green Chevy Avalanche. He fled the area and was later arrested in Newark, New Jersey.

The victim, identified as Genaro Rojas Martinez, was shot in the head. He died shortly after.

Priester is described as a black man in his mid-30's, standing around 5'10" and weighing about 160 to 180 pounds. He also has a warrant for violating his parole from an earlier assault charge. He's also the suspect in an aggravated assault in Thomaston.

Police have released surveillance pictures from the scene. 

Priester is now going through the extradition process and will be transported back to Georgia.
