NORCROSS, GA (CBS46) -

On Tuesday, May 9 officers responded to a carjacking call at Preston Lake Drive and South Norcross Tucker Road.

Gwinnett County Police Department officially requested the public's help on Wednesday, May 17 in identifying and solving the incident.

The victim, who was a taxi driver, told police he picked up the suspect at the Shell Gas Station at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Peachtree Boulevard.

Upon arrival at the complex, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the driver's money and for him to get out of the taxi.

The suspect got away with the vehicle, but it was later recovered near Preston Lake Drive and South Norcross Tucker Road.

Following the release of surveillance photos to other officers, the media, the general public and via Twitter, the police received several tips with a possible name for the suspect.

After following up on the case, the investigator was able to positively identify the carjacking suspect as 17-year-old Christopher Bass.

Christopher Bass has active warrants for hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of the theft of a vehicle, which are all felony charges.

There is a strong possibility that Bass is still armed. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
