Atlanta addiction doctor accused of drug trafficking

Posted: Updated:

Police near St. George Island, Florida arrested Dr. Michael Fishman after he got into a physical altercation with his daughter.

Police reports say Fishman's daughter demanded he go to counseling or she would contact authorities after she and his wife suspected he was using drugs.

Mrs. Fishman and the daughter searched his room for drugs and told police they found a bag full of Oxycodone pills in his toiletry bag.

CBS46 Investigative Reporter Karyn Greer has been digging into the background of Dr. Fishman and found this is not the first time he has been in trouble.

Fishman went into the Talbott Recovery in Atlanta Nearly 3 decades ago for his own opiate addiction and the Georgia State Board of Medical Examiners placed him on a 7-year probation for prescribing drugs for his personal use.

In March of 2012, CBS46 interviewed him on our Public Affairs show where we learned he is often credited with helping young adults kick their addictions.

Fishman was found with 81 Oxycodone pills and charged with domestic battery and trafficking.

The medical Board was made aware of his arrest by the media but confirmed his license is still active.

We will stay on top of the investigation and bring you new details as we get them.
