Tornado watch canceled for Atlanta; Remains in effect for Gwinnett County eastward

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

The tornado watch originally in effect for Atlanta has been canceled, although the watch remains in effect from Gwinnett County eastward through 6 p.m.

The watch will likely continue to be canceled from west-to-east throughout the afternoon. 

Georgia Power reported over 1,000 outages throughout north Georgia and metro Atlanta and that number is expected to climb throughout the day. Click here for the latest numbers.

Otherwise, scattered showers and storms will continue in metro Atlanta today. This activity is part of a larger storm system that will finally move out Wednesday night.

Flash flooding Tuesday

A flash flood warning was issued Tuesday for Floyd County, including Rome. The warning was issued after more than 2 inches of rain fell in Floyd County in about three hours. 

Wind damage

There have not been severe thunderstorm warnings, but a few storms have produced winds strong enough to bring some weak trees down. Wind damage  was reported throughout several counties in metro Atlanta Tuesday night.
