According to the governor's score card, which ranks schools in several categories including standardized tests, 6 schools in the Henry County School District received an overall grade of 'C', 22 received a 'D', and 5 received an 'F.'  More than 50% of the schools in the district are considered to be under performing or worse.

Henry County School District officials fielded questions from a crowd of parents desperate for a plan to turn things around.

CBS46 asked schooled board member, Annette Edwards, what she believes is a cause of the falling grades.

"The Georgia Milestones is new here in Georgia so that could be one area that we could attribute it to," said Edwards.

However, school officials did say administrators are being held accountable. Principals at the five lowest-scoring schools have been removed.

Parents at the meeting in Stockbridge also voiced their concern about the district's graduation rate ranking in the 54th percentile of the state.

Some at the meeting suggested developing better relationships with hiring businesses in the community, to help motivate students with promises of jobs after graduation.

The district is trying a new strategy called personalized learning. Instead of class-wide teaching, students are focused on individually and allowed to learn at their own pace.

However, some parents, like Cherise Hollis, are skeptical.

"You're saying personalized learning, each child learns individually. They learn at their own place, but at the end of the year they're all going to take the same test. How does that make sense?" asked Hollis.

District officials told parents their decisions are driven by data which support the personalized learning technique. But they're also looking to the next superintendent to make the final decisions.
