COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The race for the District 6 congressional seat continues to heat up after a new attack ad targeting Jon Ossoff hits the airwaves.

The new ad links Democratic candidate Ossoff to Kathy Griffin, who recently came under fire for tweeting a picture of her holding what appeared to be President Donald Trump's severed head.

A super PAC supporting Republican candidate Karen Handel released the ad.

Griffin eventually apologized for the tweet and said she had gone too far. Ossoff saw the spot and condemned both Griffin and the super PAC in a statement that read:

"What Kathy Griffin did was disgraceful.  And so too is it disgraceful for this SuperPAC bankrolling Karen Handel's campaign to put a graphically violent political attack ad on TV that children can see, contributing nothing to a substantive discussion of the issues.  And I call upon Secretary Handel to demand that this ad be taken down from TV."

CBS46 reached out to Karen Handel to ask if she planned to insist the ad be taken down and if she considered it appropriate. Her campaign has yet to respond to our request.
