Honda Civic stolen by escaped inmates recovered in Madison

The car that fugitives Ricky Dubose and Donnie Russell Rowe stole after the deadly shooting of two correctional officers was found Wednesday afternoon.

The green 2004 Honda Civic was found in a wooded area behind a Rite Aid convenience store in Madison. Much of the store's parking lot was blocked off by yellow caution tape as officials worked to get the car out from the woods.

A store associate told reporter Ashley Thompson that one of their pharmacists spotted it. Locals now have heightened fear that the two escapees may not be far away.

"My heart is racing," said Morgan County resident Kinsee Fuller. "It's intense, it's very scary."

For hours officials worked to get the car out from the dense woods and towed away.

"I think it's crazy that they were right here under our noses the whole time," said Dana Walls.

CBS46 News is still working to find out when the fugitives may have ditched the Honda. It was found less than two miles from the home that was burglarized by the escapees and about 1000 feet from the Lowe's parking lot where the Putnam County Sheriff held an evening press conference on Tuesday.

"It's scary to think that they're still in such a small area," said Fuller. "You would think that they would be long gone by now."

Right now authorities don't know where the two are. But locals are arming themselves in case they're still around.

Now police are looking for a white Ford F-250 pickup truck. They believe the escapees stole it from a Morgan County rock quarry business. By now, there's no telling how far the pair could be.

"My wife's got chairs against the doors at night," said resident Ed Prior.

The massive manhunt continues with state, local, and federal agencies working together around the clock.
