Suspect steals BMW, smashes it into tree

MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) -

A man is behind bars after walking into an area business, stealing the keys to a BMW and then smashing into a tree a few miles away.

The incident happened just before 7 a.m. at the Pike Nurseries on North Greenbriar Parkway in Marietta. 

According to police, a man, identified as 36 year-old Edward Pittman, broke into the business and stole a set of keys. He then took off in a black BMW SUV, causing damage to the property and two other vehicles parked in the area.

Officers caught up with Pittman after he crashed the stolen vehicle into a tree on the 1000 block of Charlton Trace.

He is currently in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Charges are pending.
