AUSTELL, Ga. (AP) -

A young girl is dead after she was struck by a vehicle as she was walking to a store in Douglas County early Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Maxham and Old Alabama roads in Austell.

Police say 10-year-old Kennade Patterson of Austell was crossing Maxham Road when she was struck by a 2014 Nissan Frontier being driven by 32-year-old Ryan Nickerson. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her 12-year-old and 16-year-old siblings were with her but they were uninjured.

Officers say Patterson improperly crossed the road and no charges will be filed against Nickerson.

Meanwhile, CBS46 talked with Douglas County Commissioner Kelly Robinson about safety concerns while walking in the area. She said the county is in a design phase to address lighting and sidewalks and construction could begin next year.
