HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources and the Henry County Police Dept. have identified the owner and transport contractor responsible for the Bengal tiger that escaped and was on the loose early Wednesday morning in Henry County.

An official from Feld Entertainment, Inc., a company contracted to transport the tiger, contacted Georgia DNR Law Enforcement officials to report the missing animal from a shipment after seeing news reports on Wednesday morning. The tiger was traveling from Florida to Tennessee.

The truck stopped in Georgia overnight, and during the stop, the female Bengal tiger managed to escape unnoticed. Feld officials discovered the tiger was missing when the truck arrived at the destination.

The tiger was seen in several locations around the I-74/Jodeco Road exit. When the tiger became aggressive toward pets in the area, law enforcement deemed it necessary to protect the public and put the tiger down. It was put down quickly and humanely.

After examination, a microchip inside the tiger was discovered and matched to the number held by Feld Entertainment. The investigation is ongoing, and possible charges are pending.
