Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall became the first of the final mayoral candidates to throw his support behind a former rival in the upcoming runoff for mayor of Atlanta.

At a news conference Tuesday, Hall announced his endorsement of fellow City Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms.

“I believe Keisha is one of the most compassionate people I’ve worked with over the last eight years on council," said Hall. "She’s been a great colleague.”

Bottoms faces Mary Norwood, also a city councilwoman, in the Dec. 5 runoff election.

City council member Kwanza Hall represents Atlanta’s District 2, made up of Downtown, Midtown, the Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, Poncey Highland – neighborhoods that both runoff candidates would love to have in their corner.

Bottoms told supporters she has great respect for Kwanza Hall.

“I am a better leader and a better candidate for having spent the last year with people like Kwanza Hall," Bottoms said.

Bottoms said she hopes to get the endorsement of more former rivals.

“I have spoken with each of the candidates, and I look forward to having additional conversations," she said, adding that she was on her way to meet with one of them in person.

CBS46's Keith Whitney is scheduled to sit down with Norwood for a one-on-one interview Tuesday. Check back with for updates.
