LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Two adults and three children were able to make it out unharmed after fire ripped through part of their Gwinnett County home early Friday morning.

The fire started around 2:15 a.m. at the home on the 400 block of Thornbush Trace in Lawrenceville.

A neighbor called 911 to alert them that a vehicle in front of the home was engulfed in flames. When crews arrived, the fire spread from the vehicle to the garage and attic of the home.

They were able to get the blaze under control but one of the firefighters sustained minor injuries. The family of five who lived at the home were able to make it out safely but the home sustained heavy fire damage to the garage and attic. There was moderate smoke and heat damage to the interior of the home.

Investigators say the fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle and then spread to the home.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
