DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

DeKalb County sheriff's deputies have arrested a suspect in a double homicide in Decatur over the weekend.

Investigators responded to the Trinity Walk Apartments in Decatur because of a stabbing around 9:30 a.m., according to a spokesperson with the Decatur Police Department. Police say when they arrived, they found that two people were dead.

One of the victims has since been identified as 14-year-old Shykia Ward. The other victim has been identified as Manuel De Jesus Franco.

Royce Stewart, 36, was arrested on Monday afternoon. He is the uncle of Shykia. Warrants for his arrest were issued on Sunday for the murder of a teenager and an adult male. A silver 2014 Ford Mustang convertible was also recovered.

The incident is being investigated as a double homicide. Police named Stewart as a suspect.

Stewart led police on a brief chase Monday that led to the abandonment of a stolen vehicle on Glen Raven Court near Covington Highway and Mercer Road.

Neighbor Donald Jackson says he couldn't believe the news.

"I'm trying not to cry," said Jackson. "It's a tragedy she was so she was a cool girl, she would always walk around , hang out with her friends. It's just a tragedy that she had to pass away."

Police say this isn't the first time Stewart has run afoul of the law. He served a five-year prison sentence for a murder in 2003. He pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
