ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A six-time felon has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for committing a violent carjacking.

Jeff North, 54, was found guilty of the 2015 carjacking in which he shot the victim and left him on the side of the road.

On March 25 North carjacked a man of his van while unlawfully possessing a revolver.

The victim, who was wearing a blood soaked shirt, was able to flag down an officer and notify him of the carjacking, according to police.

As part of his sentencing he will have three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $36,010.71 in restitution.

"North callously shot the carjacking victim at close range when he refused to surrender his vehicle," said U.S. Attorney Byung J. Pak.

North's prior convictions include robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
