City of Atlanta slowly getting back to business after cyberattack

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS46) -

For the first time since the cyberattack happened a week ago, some Atlanta City employees were able to turn their computers back on.

But the crisis is still far from over.

It’s good news, to a certain extent, but it’s really city’s way of sticking its toe in the water. The city needs to see which computers are infected and how far the ransom ware has spread, and to do that they have to actually turn on the computers.

Another good sign is that the City Council was getting back to work on Tuesday, though we didn’t see the committee room computers powered up. We do know a lot of residents were down at City Hall on Tuesday in person instead of trying to conduct business online.

Everyone concedes that things are moving slow, but most things are in fact moving.

It appears that watershed and the municipal courts have been hit the hardest, but if you have to pay a bill or a ticket, you can come down to city hall and do that in person or through the mail.
